JCRC is here to support all Jewish Omaha students wherever you go to college!

Depending on the university and the city/town you are living in, multiple organizations are working to protect Jewish students and address incidents of antisemitism.

We are here to support you and help connect you to the relevant agencies that can help.
Contact us at JCRCreporting@jewishomaha.org or call 402.249.3010.

One of the most important things you can do before or when you get to school is to familiarize yourself with your school’s Student Handbook and Code of Conduct. There, you will find standards, procedures for reporting, and how standards are enforced. This will help you protect yourself from antisemitic or threatening conduct and ensure you are not putting yourself at risk of violating codes of conduct or standards!

Guidelines for addressing incidents in different situations and environments on campus.

Security on Campus:

If you are in immediate danger, call 911.

For non-immediate concerns, submit a complaint to your university’s security department and report the incident to: JCRCreporting@jewishomaha.org and ReportCampusHate.org.

Classroom Incident:

For issues with a professor, teacher assistant (TA), or Guest Lecturer:

  1. Save Evidence and Document: Ensure you keep any relevant evidence for the case.
  2. File a bias report with your campus.
  3. If you are uncertain about how to contact the closest JCRC, Jewish Federation, Anti-Defamation League, or American Jewish Committee office, contact us for support and assistance in navigating your campus-specific reporting protocol.
  4. Report the incident.
  5. You can access legal assistance.
  6. Chain of Reporting:
    • Start with your professor.
    • If dismissed, proceed to the Department Head.
    • If there is no response, escalate to the Faculty Dean.
    • If necessary, contact the Vice President of Academics at the Provost’s Office.
  7. Keep your Hillel or a trusted student advisor or friend informed throughout the process, providing updates on the situation—they are here to support you.

Clubs & Student Government on Campus:

For issues related to campus clubs or student government, whether incidents or statements:

  1. Save Evidence: Ensure you keep any relevant evidence for the case.
  2. File a bias report with your campus.
  3. Report the incident to us for support and assistance in navigating your campus-specific reporting protocol.
  4. Report the incident to ReportCampusHate.org
  5. Keep your Hillel, student life advisor, or trusted friend informed throughout the process, providing updates on the situation—they are here to support you.

The law is on our side: The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which protects all students from discrimination based on race, color, or national origin in any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance from the Department.

Mental Health Resources for College Students

Mental health and support services differ in campus communities across the United States. Most universities have mental health and counseling services available on campus and can make private referrals for those who seek more than what is available on campus. Consult your university’s Student Life Department and Student Handbook for specific information and contacts.

The JED Foundation offers resources and tips for universities challenged by balancing student rights and maintaining safe and inclusive spaces for all students.

Hillel International offers assistance and referrals to students and professionals.

In Omaha, the Jewish Federation’s Jewish Family Services is also a good place to start.
